Traffic

Play

While standing next to a fairly busy road, Riverside Drive, I recorded the sounds of traffic after a sudden, but quick rainfall. This sound clip is my favorite because, while cars on a wet road is nothing special, only being able to hear them lets your imagination create the scene.

St. Norbert Abbey bells

St. Norbert Abbey rings it's bells every hour on the hour, however, as you can see these bells were not on the hour. The best guess I can make is these bells sound when mass is out or perhaps a special occasion. I like this clip because the bells are pretty and peaceful, but also because if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of crickets in the background. You may also notice the absence of traffic in the background. St. Norbert Abbey is located in the city, but it is surrounded by acres of open grass fields, which does well to cut it off from the busy traffic of Riverside Drive on one side and Webster Avenue on the far other.

The day before I was planning on doing my sound walk, I saw one of the local high school bands practicing. I immediately went home to get my microphones and recorder to get them playing. I was standing over a hundred feet away from them, across the street.

Wind Chimes

I stopped in my own backyard and recorded the sounds our wind chime was creating in the wind. I stood right around a corner of my house to block out the wind.

Two children were ignoring their mother's decision that it was time to leave the park, and unfortunately one got stuck at the top of the jungle gym and couldn't get down. Him calling for his mother was very cute.
